MEMORY VERSES  - Romans 2:14-15a

Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts.

SHORTER CATECHISM #40

Q.                  What did God at first reveal to man for the rule of his obedience?

A.                  The rule which God at first revealed to man for his obedience, was the moral law.

INCREASE YOUR UNDERSTANDING

God requires obedience to His will. How do we know His will? God gave us a rule, or a revelation of His will when He created us. He put His law into every man’s heart. This rule, or law, or will of God, is called “the moral law,” because it guides our conduct, or morals. Every man has been given a conscience and a sense of right and wrong. Conscience, sometimes strongly, sometimes weakly, tells us what God's holy will is.

The moral law expresses the nature of God and is impressed on the nature of man. It is universal, being without boundary in time or space. When a man becomes a Christian by faith in Jesus Christ, he wants to please God and do His will. The moral law gives the Christian a pattern for his life. It is a guide to right living that is pleasing to our Heavenly Father. The following Scriptures from the Old Testament, the Gospels, and the epistles identify our pattern: Lev. 19:2; Matt. 5:48; 1 Pet. 1:16.

Paul told Timothy (2 Tim. 3:14-17) how the Bible guides and directs our daily lives. What four ways is the Bible useful in our lives?

____________      ____________   ____________    ____________

The moral law also reveals to us five things which God wants us to know. Match the statements and the verses:

_____    directs us in our daily living

_____    tells us we must obey

                _____    reveals our sin

                _____    shows need of Christ

_____    warns of results of life of sin

                                a.             Psalm 19:11

                                b.             Romans 3:20

                                c.             Psalm 119:104,105

                d.             Psalm 119:4

                                e.             Romans 7:14, 24

Many people, including Christians, are concerned with loving. What does Romans 13:10 say about the relationship between love and the law?
